The Courtyard Winery Story

Courtyard Winery’s roots run deep in the passion for wine and grape growing, spanning three generations. Randy and Laura Graham, inspired by their family legacies, embarked on a wine adventure in California.

However, their pursuit of the perfect wine ultimately led them back to North East, Pennsylvania, where they believed they could raise a family and cultivate exceptional grapes.

In 2007, after years of cultivating grapes and crafting wine at home, they expanded their vineyard, embracing the art of winemaking with Randy’s enrollment in the prestigious University of California at Davis winemaking program. In 2009, they obtained a Limited Winery License, marking the start of their commercial grape harvest.

On July 17, 2010, Courtyard Winery opened its doors on West Main Road in North East, Pennsylvania. This marked the exciting beginning of their winemaking journey in this historic town, where their love for wine and deep agricultural roots converged to create exceptional wines.

For their dry red wines, the magic begins with fermenting the grapes on the skins, unlocking the rich flavors hidden within. Post-fermentation, these wines find their home in Oak Barrels, where they undergo a transformative process, softening the tannins and allowing the wine to reach its full potential.

Their dry white wines, on the other hand, undergo a different journey. They are cool fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, preserving the natural fruit flavors and accentuating the delightful upfront aromas.

When it comes to their sweet wine selection, Courtyard Winery employs a process that minimizes oxygen exposure. The result? Delicious and fruit-forward semi-sweet and sweet wines that range from whites to dark reds, each one bursting with bold flavors.

What truly sets Courtyard Winery apart is their proximity to their grape sources. With the winery surrounded by 10,000 acres of grapes in Erie County, they can receive freshly picked grapes within an hour. This proximity allows them to meticulously control every step of the winemaking process, ensuring the highest quality wines while minimizing oxygen exposure. From bud break in early May to harvest in September and October, they keep a watchful eye on every stage of grape development.
